Mental Health Q & A

What is mental health?

Your mental health refers to your emotional, psychological, and social well-being, and affects how you think and feel. Your mental health also determines how well you manage stress and interact with others, as well as your decision-making process.

Changes in your mental health can affect your thought processes, moods, and behaviors. It’s not uncommon to experience mental health changes at some point during your life.

Your family history, body chemistry, and life experiences may place you at risk of developing a mental health condition. Help is available that can improve your symptoms and your outlook on life. Centerville Medical Center specializes in the management of depression and anxiety.

When should I seek help for my mental health?

It’s just as important to take care of your mental health as it is your physical health because mental wellness impacts your day-to-day life and your interactions with others.

Signs and symptoms that indicate you should seek a mental health evaluation from Centerville Medical Center include:

  • Feelings of despair, helplessness, or hopelessness
  • Lack of energy
  • Unexplained aches and pains
  • Hearing voices
  • Feeling scared or confused
  • Sudden changes in memory
  • Withdrawing from social situations
  • Thoughts of suicide

If you or a loved one is showing these signs and symptoms, contact Centerville Medical Center for an evaluation.

What can I expect during an evaluation for mental health?

Centerville Medical Center takes a holistic and integrative approach to care, and you can expect a comprehensive evaluation when you come in with concerns about mental health. During the evaluation, they conduct a mental health screening and a physical exam.

They may also recommend blood work and a urinalysis to screen for health conditions that may be contributing to your mental health symptoms.

Centerville Medical Center is a full-service internal medicine practice, and many of these tests are performed in-house so there’s no need to go to another facility for testing.

Based on the information gathered during your examination, Centerville Medical Center develops a treatment plan that may include lifestyle modifications, hormone therapy, and medication. They may also refer you to a counselor for cognitive behavioral therapy.

Your mental health is an important part of your overall wellness and shouldn’t be ignored. For comprehensive care from a team that can manage all of your health needs, contact Centerville Medical Center by phone or online today.
